Symposium's social events open to everyone
the Island's residents involved with the event as possible, regardless of their occupation.
It doesn't matter if you're in the hospitality industry, sell computers, work in a local bank or sell ice-cream for a living, all are welcome at Bermuda's first industry-organised insurance conference.
A wide range of social events have been arranged for local residents and accompanying guests of delegates to the Symposium -- all sponsored by locally-based insurance companies.
Each function is playing on the ambiguity of the term ART, which in the insurance world stands for alternative risk transfer, as well as having its literal meaning.
For $150, guests can attend four social events from Tuesday, May 25 to Thursday, May 27, which are all linked to the ART of Bermuda.
The package kicks off on the Tuesday, between 6 p.m. and 7.30 p.m., when guests can enjoy the International Culinary ART of Bermuda at the Cascade Pool, at Marriott's Castle Harbour Resort, which is playing host to the conference.
First class food and wine will be available at an event which is being sponsored by XL Insurance.
The period from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. the following evening is devoted to The ART of Bermuda at City Hall and is sponsored by Commercial Risk Reinsurance and ACE.
On Thursday, May 27, between 5.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m., there is the ART of Wine Tasting, featuring Bermuda resident Mr. Robin Blackburne, one of the few qualified Masters of Wine in the world.
He will give a full demonstration of some of the world's best Chardonnays in the ballroom of Marriott's at an event sponsored by Fencourt Reinsurance, Griffiths & Wanklyn, Inter-Ocean Reinsurance, Kirkway International and Stockholm Re.
Afterwards, it's straight on to the fourth and final event of this $150 guest package -- The ART of Hospitality on the Courtyard Terrace at Marriott's.
Musician Shine Hayward, supported by Fantasy, will provide the entertainment.
There will also be a surprise appearance by a mystery group whose identities are being kept secret until the day itself.
According to project co-ordinator Mrs. Suzie McKeegan: "This mystery group will keep everybody entertained, I guarantee it. People will fall about laughing when they come on.'' The Symposium's accompanying guest programme, which costs $250, includes all of the above functions, plus two more events.
On Wednesday, May 26, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., they can participate in Bermuda's Architectural ART, which involves a tour of Tucker's Town homes arranged in conjunction with the Garden Club of Bermuda.
The next day, accompanying guests can take part in Bermuda's Cultural ART, which entails a tour of Camden by Lady Swan and presentations from Mr. Tom Butterfield, founder of Masterworks, and Ms Louise Jackson on the history of the Gombey dancers. There will also be a display of the dancing art of the Gombeys.
On Friday, everyone willing to part with $150 can take part in the BIS golf tournament and buy themselves the chance to secure $20,000 for a hole-in-one on the par three 18th hole.
Twenty prizes are on offer during the tournament, which is being held to raise money for the Angus Robinson, Jr. Foundation.
Anyone interested in signing up for the above events should contact Mrs.
McKeegan on 292-6386.
