Trio of warships drops in
when it stopped in at the Knuckle Berth at the Royal Naval Dockyard on Tuesday morning.
The visit gave her crew the chance to enjoy some rest and relaxation before they left yesterday morning on a Tiger Cruise.
The cruise gives friends and family of US Navy personnel an opportunity to travel back to the United States on board one of the Navy's ships.
The two other US warships which stopped off in Bermuda this week were the USS Aubrey Frith and the USS Taylor . Both stopped in to refuel.
The Aubrey Frith docked at the Flagship Berth in Dockyard on Tuesday morning and continued on its way yesterday morning.
The Taylor stopped in on Tuesday afternoon at the Esso oil terminal before sailing on to Mayport, Florida.
On the cruise ship scene, Meyer Agencies Ltd. reported that the Dreamward arrived with more passengers than the previous week. She arrived on Monday morning in St. George's with 1,416 passengers, compared to 1,380 last week.
The Dreamward berthed at Penno's Wharf before moving to Number Five and Six Docks in Hamilton on Tuesday morning. Dreamward was due to leave for New York later today.
The Horizon also arrived on Monday morning and berthed at Number One Dock in Hamilton before shifting to St. George's on Wednesday morning. She was carrying 1,522 passengers. She was expected to leave for New York this afternoon.
Meyer also reported that the Meridian arrived at King's Wharf, Dockyard on Tuesday morning from New York with 1,305 passengers. She was due to return to New York tomorrow at 5 p.m.
The Song of America and Royal Majesty both arrived in St. George's on Tuesday with 1,336 and 1,147 passengers, respectively, local agents John S. Darrell reported.
Royal Majesty berthed at Ordinance Island and will return to Boston tomorrow afternoon. Song of America berthed overnight and then moved to Number One Dock on yesterday morning. She was also due to leave tomorrow afternoon.
In other shipping news, three container ships arrived in Hamilton this week.
The Oleander arrived on Sunday with 106 dry containers and 37 refrigerated containers. Also on board were a fire truck and 16 cars. She left on Tuesday morning.
On Monday morning Somers Isle arrived carrying 67 containers of which nine were refrigerated. She was also carrying steel, lumber and a boat. She also left on Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile Bermuda Islander berthed at Number Seven Dock with 62 dry containers and nine refrigerated containers on Monday afternoon. Meyer Agencies reported that she left for Salem, New Jersey the following afternoon.
The Starfish , a cement tanker out of Venezuela, docked at the commercial berth in Dockyard last Sunday afternoon. She left Tuesday night after off-loading 5,000 metric tonnes of Portland Grey cement for the Bermuda Cement Company.
And Cable & Wireless cable ship, the Sir Eric Sharpe , left for Baltimore last Friday afternoon. She will return to Bermuda in a month after picking up some cable machinery.
PIT-STOP -- The American warship USS Taylor was sighted off the North shore on Tuesday afternoon heading for the Esso oil terminal. After refuelling, the vessel left Tuesday night for Mayport, Florida.
