Vessels in for repairs
cargo vessel Project Arabia finally left St. George's yesterday after a five-day layover to repair her turbo chargers.
She is now on her way to Spain.
Meanwhile, engineers continue to investigate engine damage to the private motor yacht Lady S by contaminated fuel picked up in Gibraltar.
The tug boat Powerful towed the vessel from some 120 miles offshore the Island last week.
And in another minor incident last week, an injured crew member on board the container ship Maersk Tennessee was evacuated early Friday morning.
The man reportedly slashed his left hand with a circular saw and was treated at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital before leaving for his home in Houston, Texas on Tuesday.
The Maersk Tennessee was sailing from France and bound for Charleston, South Carolina.
Also currently berthed in St. George's is the 145-foot Empire Sands sailing out of Thunder Bay, Canada.
The 23 passengers on board are en route to the Bahamas, but are believed to be biding time until Tropical Storm Mitch dissipates.
And the Hesperus is expected to arrive in local waters some time in the next week for an offshore pickup of spares.
In regular shipping news, the Oleander arrived on Sunday with 153 dry and 40 refrigerated containers, seven trailers and 24 cars. She left for Port Elizabeth, New Jersey on Tuesday.
The Somers Isles delivered 126 containers -- including nine refrigerated, 12 flat racks, and 2 open-top containers -- and sailed for Jacksonville, Florida on Monday.
And the Bermuda Islander arrived on Monday and off loaded 92 dry and 19 refrigerated containers before returning to Salem, New Jersey the next day.
Last Friday the Norwegian registered Malmenes sailed out of Aulds, Nova Scotia to discharge a quantity of sand and stone at Penno's Wharf, St. George's.
And yesterday the motor tanker Tomsk arrived to discharge jet and gas oil in St. George's and Dockyard. She is expected to leave tomorrow.
Only one regular cruise ship visitor -- the Norwegian Crown -- has yet to finish this year's schedule.
She arrived last week Friday from Halifax, Nova Scotia with 933 passengers and sailed the following Sunday for Morehead City, North Carolina.
The Norwegian Crown has three more scheduled visits to the Island.
And on Saturday the cruise ship Rembrandt -- formerly the Rotterdam -- will have a one night stopover in Dockyard.
She is currently on route from Ireland and bound for New York with 1,020 passengers on board.
And next Thursday the Queen Elizabeth 2 will visit for the second and final time this year.
AT REST -- The three-masted Empire Sandy lies at rest in St. George's Harbour this week.
