BCB rises 47%

The Bermuda Stock Exchange was little changed last week, despite some large swings in the share values of several local issuers.

Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. was the biggest winner, gaining a whopping 47.1 percent, as it climbed $2.40 to $7.50 on low volume.

Devonshire Industries Ltd. was another major gainer, adding $1, or 12.5 percent, to close the week on $9.

Both Argus Group Holdings Ltd. and Bermuda Press Holdings Ltd. fell more than nine percent. BPH's decline came as 17,800 of its shares changed hands.

BF&M Ltd. made gains in the week it announced profits were up seven percent through the first nine months of this year. The insurer and pension provider rose 75 cents, or five percent, to $15.80, as 7,525 shares were exchanged.

Two utilities companies fell, Ascendant Group Ltd. by 1.3 percent and KeyTech Ltd. by 0.6 percent.

The busiest trader was Butterfield Bank, which remained unchanged on $4, as 98,519 shares changed hands. The bank's preference shares also held steady on $1,225, as 198 shares were traded.

The Royal Gazette / BSX Index fell 5.43 points, or 0.26 percent, during the week.
