Bermuda to host captives conference
year's International Captives Congress -- ICAP 2001 -- to be held from June 12 to June 15 at the Fairmont Southampton Princess.
Described as the risk management professional's comprehensive guide to captive formation and ownership, the conference will address such issues as: structuring and implementing a successful captive programme; latest tax and regulatory developments; ins and outs of employee benefits in captives.
Matt Damsker, editor in chief of Risk & Insurance, said: "With rates for workers' compensation, professional liability and other corporate insurance on the rise, the signs of a comprehensive hardening are driving the captive market, broadening it to include more areas of coverage for small as well as large business, and making captives even more profitable as profit centres.
"Amidst all this, ICAP may be the most indispensable gathering of all, for professionals who need to explore captive concepts, keep abreast of offshore domiciles, and make sure their companies keep pace with the benefits and complexities of captives.'' Four of the ten members of the conferences advisory board are based in Bermuda. Jim Blankenship is the partner in charge of the tax department of the Bermuda office of KPMG; Alan Cosser is president and chief executive officer of Aon Insurance Managers (Bermuda ) Ltd. and is executive director for Bermuda and the Caribbean region; Roger Gillett is senior vice president of business development at ACE Bermuda Insurance; Michael Hardy is president of the Bermuda Insurance Management Association and president of Liberty International Management.
One of the star appearances will be by Brian Duperreault, chairman and chief executive officer of ACE Limited, who will make the keynote speech on the second day.
