BII set to host skills seminars

The seminar, scheduled for May 22, June 2, and June 9, is aimed at business people working in insurance-related jobs and the types of problems, and solutions, found in the workplace.

Speakers include international management development consultant Mr. Paul Loftus, professional trainer Mr. Stuart Doyle, and Bermuda Insurance Institute director Mr. Ian Linnegan.

Mr. Loftus is a regular visitor to Bermuda and conducts private consultancy work in addition to speaking on Bermuda Employers Council programmes. He is a qualified Associate Insurance Broker (AIB) and is also a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Brokers.

Mr. Doyle, a former US Army officer, specialises in stress management, time management, team building and attitude enhancement.

Mr. Linnegan is a former director of the Chartered Insurance Institute management and supervisory skills programmes conducted at the CII College.

Course objectives are to: Provide participants with complete knowledge of their own behavioural styles of management and how it impacts others, and to use this knowledge to improve the effectiveness of staff who report directly to them; Make supervisors better problem solvers and decision makers; Allow supervisors to make better use of their time; increase the likelihood of success through proven management techniques -- including the sharing of practical sharing of practical solutions to common problems.

The Bermuda Insurance Institute is holding a special 90-minute pre-exam study group tomorrow for people taking the Associate of Risk Managers exams next week.

Mr. Ellis Wilkerson, corporate risk manager at the Bank of Bermuda, will discuss test-taking techniques during the session which runs from 12 noon to 1.30 p.m.
