BII to hold insurance seminars

First on the schedule is a four-morning induction seminar for insurance affiliated professionals to be held on the mornings of March 20, 23, 27 and 30. This is designed for accountants, bankers, lawyers, human resource managers, information systems personnel and insurance employees with two or more years' experience in the industry.
The topics covered will be insurable risks, types of hazards, utmost good faith, risk management, classification of insurance companies, reinsurance, captives and development of the Bermuda insurance market. The presenters will be James O'Shaughnessy of Centre Solutions, Karen Bucher of ACE, Henry Sutton of ACE, Peter Doyles of the BII and Josie Richardson from the Registrar of Companies.
On March 21 there will be a lunch seminar on risk financing for employee benefits. This is directed at captive managers, brokers, insurers, reinsurers, lawyers and accountants and will be presented by Markus Mende of Aon IRMG UK and Larry O'Rourke of LewisCo Group.
The topics covered will include: understanding the Department of Labour's exemption for Columbia Energy Corporation; benchmarks for decisionmakers from a US and international perspective; starting up and funding the project; discussion of the employee benefits trust; benefit plan sweeting; integrated disability management.
The third seminar will be on March 29 and is a breakfast seminar on finite risk. It will be presented by Tony Bibbings and Janet Mercer of Inter-Ocean Re and will include the following topics: what is finite insurance?; how it has changed with time; the influence of accounting; examples of prospective/retrospective insurance and reinsurance.

The BII has also announced a one-day workshop on claims writing to be held on May 4. The Institute has no more details available as yet but recommends early registration by telephoning 295-1596.
