BSX climbs 3.75%
Local stocks rose last week, led by jumps in the value of shares of both Butterfield Bank and Ascendant Group Ltd.
Butterfield rose 6.4 percent and Ascendant 4.9 percent, as The Royal Gazette / BSX Index climbed 3.75 percent. The index rose 47.5 points to close the week on 1,264.21.
Butterfield saw by far the most trading activity, as nearly 60,000 of its shares changed hands. The bank rose nine cents during the five days of trading to close on $1.49.
Ascendant climbed 68 cents to $14.50, as 3,448 shares changed hands.
Watlington Waterworks Ltd. was another issue to advance last week, gaining 50 cents, or 4.5 percent, to $11.50 on the trading of 2,000 shares.
Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd. suffered the biggest decline of the week, falling 39 cents, or 8.7 percent, to $4.11, as 2,400 shares changed hands.
Insurer BF&M Ltd. slipped slightly, shedding four cents, or 0.3 percent, to $13.01, as 12,486 shares were exchanged.
BSX trading volume topped 86,500 for the week, while turnover was more than $411,000.
