Dept. of E-Commerce launches careers guide

Students interested in going into IT can gain a helping hand from the 2009/10 Careers Guide which was launched by the Department of E-Commerce. Contained in the guide is information on the various information technology careers in Bermuda, as well as local IT courses, scholarships and interviews with young Bermudians in the field.

It also features an interview with Qian Dickinson, a young web designer from Aardvark Communications. The guide, which contains information on the positions, descriptions and salaries for several careers, including database administrator, computer systems technician and systems security analyst, as well as where to go online to find descriptions for 30 IT-related careers. In addition, it provides information on IT scholarships available on the Island from Government and the private sector, as well as information on the Technology Leadership Forum (TLF) Internship Programme. Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and E-Commerce, Michael Scott, said: "The guide contains invaluable information and I urge you to take advantage of the information available in this guide. With the tough world economic climate, IT careers have been resilient in the economic storm." Mr. Scott thanked the stakeholders who partnered with the Ministry to provide input into the guide, including the E-Commerce Advisory Board, the IT industry, training providers, the Department of Labour and Training, Bermuda College and the Bermuda Careers Centre.
