Lloyds Bank cuts 4,500 more jobs

LONDON (AP) — Part-nationalised Lloyds Banking Group says it will eliminate 4,500 more jobs as it continues to streamline operations.

Lloyds was formed in the takeover of Halifax/Bank of Scotland by Lloyds TSB at the peak of the credit crisis.

The bank said yesterday that it will eliminate 1,600 full-time permanent jobs, 1,150 temporary and contract staff and 1,750 offshore contractor jobs in its IT operations. The Accord union says Lloyds has cut 20,000 jobs since the takeover in January 2009. Lloyds says it had about 106,500 employees at mid-year.
