to Washington D.C. for a massive exhibition next year.

Bermuda Container Line Ltd. and their vessel, the Oleander , will carry all the materials for a Bermudian exhibition the size of two football fields, for a folklore festival next summer.

Bermuda is taking part in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2001, a research-based, in-depth live cultural event, that will showcase all aspects of Bermudian heritage and culture.

Minister of the Environment, Development and Opportunity Terry Lister highlighted some of the ideas the 20 project workers and researchers might come up with for the show.

He said they could: "Maybe re-enact Cup Match or build a Bermuda home.'' Government is hoping the project will have far-reaching reactions.

Bermuda Container Line president Geoffrey Frith said the timing for participation in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival was excellent.

"At a time when there are a lot of questions as to where everyone fits in the Bermuda scene, it is great that this project will allow us as Bermudians to understand and celebrate our cultural heritage,'' he said. "This is a great project. It's educational, fun and unifying.'' by Arthur Bean On board: Minister of Environment, Development and Opportunity Terry Lister (left) thanks Bermuda Container Line Limited for joining the operation to haul the material for an international festival in Washington D.C. on Monday as BCL president Geoffrey Frith (centre) and Leadership Council member John Harvey (right) look on.
