Profitable business put on the market
A profitable Bermudian business which has been open for over three decades is up for sale.
The owner of Ornamental Iron Works, based on the Middle Road, is looking to sell up and move on.
Robin Gray is the second generation of his family to own the workshop, which has made railings and garden furniture, along with other iron items since 1963.
He is selling the business as a going concern along with the well-located site for an undisclosed price through Capcar Enterprises.
Barry Capuano, president and general manager of Capcar, confirmed that Mr.
Gray was looking for a buyer.
"The owner is selling the business as a going concern. His father owned and ran it and handed it down to Robin. Now it is time for him to move on.'' The business has not had any definite offers yet, but there has been a fair bit of interest in the site.
"We have had a few calls. It is a difficult business because it is the ironworks, a business in which there are not many qualified Bermudians.
"It is a small market -- not like a restaurant where there are many people who could manage it.'' Mr. Capuano added that there had been a great deal of interest in the building itself, but that the company and building were being sold as a package.
He added that the reason the business was being sold was not that the company is not doing well, but simply Mr. Gray feels it is time for a change.
But he added: "It is a great deal of money for someone who is an apprentice.
We can, however, split the company as long as it is sold as a business.''
