Stats Dept. clarifies error on Belco fuel adjustment

The Department of Statistics reissued the August 2010 Consumer Price Index after a mistake related to Belco's fuel adjustment charge.

Valerie Robinson-James, the Director of Statistics, said in an e-mailed statement: "There was an error in quoting the fuel adjustment rate for the Fuel & Power Sector. The fuel adjustment rate should have been stated in cents and NOT dollars.

"Therefore, the fuel adjustment rate increased by one cent and NOT one dollar. The Department apologises for any confusion caused as a result of the misquote."

The original release stated that Belco's fuel adjustment charge had risen to $12.50 in August, which was reported in last Friday's Business section of The Royal Gazette. The true figure is 12.5 cents per kilowatt hour.
