Lorelie Autor

A newly-formed management consulting firm will be looking to bridge the gap between Government and business, starting local and going global with a network of operations from Bermuda to as far afield as the UK, US, Canada and Dubai.JL Consulting Ltd, which was incorporated by president and CEO Lorelie Autor this week, will focus on risk management, internal control and corporate governance to the public and private sectors, local and international companies and profit and non-profit organisations. The company, which is domiciled in Bermuda, will provide training and development to Bermudians in a number of areas such as in their career, personality, financial management and family life, as well as marriage enrichment courses, healthcare and music. The firm, which has a Bermuda subsidiary, which Ms Autor, who is a Filipino, runs with managing director and former XL colleague Evelou Mosley, has already established key partnerships with the Bermuda Government, local and international companies and Keiser University, a top 12 online US university based in Florida. There are also plans to set up JL Consulting Philippines Ltd in December 2011.Ms Autor, who owns the company along with her husband and has 10 years experience in the corporate world, said that the aim of her business is to offer its services for half the price of the Big Four.“During my time in business, I noticed a big disconnect between the public and private sector,” she said.“So the main purpose of my company will be to bridge the gap between the two.”Ms Autor said her firm will be seeking to improve the relationship between Bermudians and guest workers and train both parties in the mentoring process. If it proves to be successful in Bermuda, with an extensive list of contacts, she plans to roll the concept out internationally in the future.“I have been in the real estate and financial guarantee industries and Government so I have seen the whole spectrum and have been asking myself how can I bridge the gap?” she said.“It is a big step, particularly during a recession, but I have a lot of experience and connections across the world and have confidence in myself that I can do the job.“As a consultant you have to know the business inside out and be in a position to give sound advice to your clients.”Working with her executive assistant and an all-Bermudian team of three junior consultants and three senior consultants, the company will go out to its clients’ places of work.Qualified as a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor and an Accredited Payables Manager, having graduated with an Honours degree in Business Administration and Accountancy from the UP College of Business Administration in 2001, she joined KPMG Philippines as a staff accountant before transferring to leading real estate firm Ayala Land Inc as a senior internal auditor and working her way up the ranks to financial analyst in corporate planning prior to her move to Bermuda to take up the post of senior business risk services auditor at Ernst & Young.Overseeing the documentation of Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 for the financial guarantee industry in Bermuda, Ms Autor was offered the role of assistant vice-president in finance at one of her clients, XL Financial Assurance. But following the collapse of parent company Security Capital Assurance in the wake of the mortgage crisis in 2008, she joined XL Capital as a liquidity and cash manager responsible for the accounts payable team in Bermuda and India. After being released from XL the next year following a financial strength ratings downgrade from A+ to A by the three big ratings companies, she joined Government as accounts payable manager in the Department of the Accountant General and led her team to a platinum certificate and to become an Accredited Accounts Payable Department within four months and after 18 months in the role progressed onto the position of assistant director of the internal audit department.Last month Ms Autor, who is also a singer and plans to release an album later this year, resigned from her job and launched her own company.Well-connected across the world, with her aunt Belinda Keiser who runs Keiser University, another aunt who owns a hospital in New York and an uncle in Texas who is a retired healthcare specialist and a writer who has published four books, she has already partnered with another aunt in the UK who is a retired scientist/medical technologist, who she has appointed as managing director of the UK branch. For more information about JP Consulting contact 332-0815 or e-mail lorelie.autor[AT]jlconsultingltd.com
