Thomson takes fitness vacations programme to Fairmont

A businesswoman’s idea for fitness vacations has proved such a hit that the Fairmont Southampton has convinced her to relocate the boot-camp-style programme to the resort.The Fairmont announced yesterday it has partnered with Norma Thomson’s Fitness Bay Resort to offer wellness vacation packages starting at $900 a person.Ms Thomson left her job as events manager for Bacardi last year to launch Fitness Bay at Cambridge Beaches .She said she decided to relocate to Southampton after the Fairmont “expressed extreme interest” in her program for guests wanting to exercise on vacation.To make it more convenient, shorter half-day and full-day programs have been added to the full-week and weekend programs already offered.Ms Thomson said the weekend packages have proved popular among Bermuda residents and a number of her full week clients who have lost between 6 and 11-plus pounds.“We are hosting our first two-week long client from Colombia, who is thoroughly enjoying it. She absolutely loves the Island!” Ms Thomson said, adding, the client hails all the way from the city of Barranquilla.Shelley Meszoly, regional director of sales and marketing for the Fairmont Southampton added: “We know that our guests are conscious of their dietary and fitness needs while they are travelling. Rather than abandon their good habits while on vacation, more often we find that our visitors are looking to maintain and even intensify their existing regimen.“This partnership with Fitness Bay Resort is in line with our commitment to meeting and exceeding the health and fitness expectations of our guests.”Participants in the Fitness Bay Resort “all-inclusive, results oriented weight loss programme” will learn how to make simple lifestyle changes, including becoming more active, that deliver results.Guests will be introduced to energetic hikes on trails and the beach, spinning, yoga, core conditioning, and nutrition advice that is tailored for all levels of fitness.“Through our partnership with The Fairmont Southampton, we’re able to offer our clients an even greater variety of fitness options,” Ms Thomson said.“In addition to our popular hikes on the beach, water aerobics, circuit and weight training, we now offer kayaking, mountain biking and several other fitness activities only a resort of the size of Fairmont Southampton can provide. Luxury accommodations complemented by a menu of healthy cuisine specially designed for our program by Fairmont’s talented culinary team, completes the experience.”Guests may choose a weeklong fitness programme which includes six nights in a luxurious guest room, a daily fitness programme (including hikes, water aerobics, core strengthening, TRX training and more), nutritional counselling, and three specially designed meals per day.Rates for this package start at $2,900 per person, single occupancy, or $2,175, double occupancy.The weekend programme provides a shorter, more introductory experience and includes a three-night stay, daily fitness and nutritional counselling programme and three meals per day. Rates start at $1,200 per person, single occupancy, or $900 per person, double occupancy.These packages are available year-round starting May 1, 2012. For guests who would like to enjoy a day of wellness, Fitness Bay Resort offer full-day ($120) and half-day ($75) programmes.The Fairmont said as a further complement to the programme guests may choose to add treatments at the resort’s Willow Stream Spa, or golf course.
