E-edition relaunch, website redesign set for Monday
The Royal Gazette is relaunching the e-Edition of their newspaper on Monday, along with a redesigned website. The old NewsStand, which used page-turner technology and allowed readers to view the newspaper online as it appears in print, has been replaced and rebranded as NewsRack. It will be available to subscribers, and The Royal Gazette are planning a major marketing campaign, which will include signage on the newspaper’s Par-la-Ville Road office building and cross media advertising, to launch the new product. The e-Edition is designed to be viewable on any electronic platform and is an exact electronic replica of the entire physical paper, including the headlines, articles, photographs, graphics, display advertisements, classified advertisements and public notices.Chief executive officer Jonathan Howes explained: “This is the first of many products that are coming and I’m excited about the products we are introducing. We’ll be presenting The Royal Gazette as an app for iPad users, and there will be extra content — such as videos — that we are not able to do in print, so that is very exciting. It really is bringing the RG forward,” he said.“We are the largest news organisation on the island. We need to ensure we are reaching all our readership in as many ways as possible.”Benefits of the new e-Edition are that subscribers need never miss an issue, it has improved search and zoom features, and will allow users access to The Royal Gazette archives. There will be special introductory prices for subscribing to the new e-Edition.Mr Howes added that the newspaper’s website has been refreshed. “We have redesigned parts of the site so that it is more consistent with the printed newspaper,” he said.He explained the four sections of the paper: news, business, lifestyle and sport, will each have their own design elements, and in particular. a standard colour, that will be consistent across The Royal Gazette’s print or digital products. In order to make the site easier to navigate, he said: “We have also made it less cluttered and more user-friendly.”And The Royal Gazette logo will now be the same online as it is in the newspaper. The new e-Edition will be accessible from the newspaper’s website, at www.royalgazette.com.
