Chubb foundation awards scholarships
Insurance firm Chubb’s charitable arm has handed out two scholarships to island students.
Karen Bennett has been named as the 20th Robert Clements Scholar while Rebekha Rhiannon Simons has been awarded the Bermuda College Education Award.
Ms Bennett, a graduate of Georgia State-Perimeter College, will attend the University of Toronto in the autumn to study actuarial science, with a minor in computer science using the four-year fully-funded award.
Ms Simons, known as Rhia, who has an Associate’s degree in Arts from Bermuda College, will start a degree in psychology at St John’s University in New York and aims to become a therapist when she returns to Bermuda.
Lori Dunstan, chairman of the Chubb Charitable Foundation, said: “We are proud to welcome Karen. She joins a family of remarkable men and women who have received the Robert Clements Scholarship over the past 20 years.
“Karen is dedicated to her academic pursuits and undoubtedly personifies the characteristics of a Robert Clements Scholar through her community involvement, work ethic and an unparalleled drive to succeed.
“She is a testament to the fact that hard work and determination can bring great rewards.”
Samantha Froud, chief administration officer of Chubb Bermuda, said the college education award was designed to help graduates of Bermuda College achieve a Bachelor’s degree in any field of study.
She added: “We are extremely proud to have Rhia as our 2016 Bermuda College Education Award recipient and are confident she will achieve her goals.”
