Spectacular night of dancehall set for Cup Match Friday

Promoter Eusi Wainwright is hoping for a large, energetic crowd to pack the Dandy Town field Friday night for a spectacular night of dancehall.

Forward Forever Promotions in association with Passa Passa Jamaica is presenting The Return of Shelly Belly featuring Shelly Belly, Roy Dip and Portmore Dancehall Queen Dahlia from Jamaica and the Montreal Dancehall Queen Sheba.

?Those that know of the dancers know what they can expect,? said Mr. Wainwright. ?They are the hottest dancers from Jamaica and Canada.

?The crowd I will attract will know what to expect.?

He said the dancers are featured on Passa Passa ? a weekly DVD of dances in Jamaica ? and Hot Monday.

This show has the added bonus of ?female power?, he added. While most of the dance shows that come to Bermuda feature male dancers, this show will feature two dancehall queens.

Local acts include Hype Type, Iron B, Scoutty and Fisha.

The sounds include King Star, Twin Star, Souljah One, Lenky Bwoy, Zedhi and After Dark.

Dahlia, a featured dancer is the dancehall queen from Portmore, Jamaica. Her past performances have included Reggae Sumfest 2003-2005, Sting 2003, Teen Splash 2004, Portmore Star Search 2003-2005 and Spring Break 2003.

Dahlia can be seen in many dancehall music videos including Beenie Man?s ?Dude?, Elephant Man?s ?Pon Di River, Pon Di Bank?, Frisco Kid?s ?Gallop?, Lady Saw?s ?Study? and Maka Diamond?s ?Tek Con?.

She can also be seen in the Passa Passa DVDs which circulate worldwide.

Due to the recent violence in Bermuda, Mr. Wainwright said security will be in full effect. Ray?s Canine and Deep Dale bouncers will ensure the event runs violence free, he said.

Mr. Wainwright also said there will be small Police presence.

?They will be there just to ensure complete safety and enjoyment.?

There will also be a raffle for a gate prize ? a charter flight to Jamaica during Christmas to see the Bermuda Dancers compete.

Part proceeds from the event will be donated to Dandy Town Youth Club and the Bermuda Dance Team performing in Jamaica.

Gates open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $30.
