Collie Buddz to appear in two-night reggae fundraising event
Two master DJ’s, a Bermudian reggae sensation and a beautiful beach equals Masters of the Arena Unleashed.
MF and Animal Promotions present a two night reggae fundraising event featuring David Rodigan from England and Stone Love’s Rory from Jamaica. Bermuda’s own Collie Buddz will headline the event doing a full set before the clash at Snorkel Park.
The first part takes place on Friday, July 27 with a complete old school vibe. Andrew Phillips of Animal Promotions said the music will range from ska to reggae, mostly music the younger generation haven’t heard.
Mr. Phillips said the event is to raise money for Youth News so that the children can go to the United Nations meeting and have a say in world problems.
His partners, MF Promotions had scheduled Stone Love, he had David Rodigan, so the two companies came together on the project.
“Last year at our show, we featured a Collie Buddz dub plate that was played by David “Magic” Cunningham of SoulJahOne. Sony asked for a copy and that’s how our relationship with them was made.
“We asked them if Collie could be a part of the show this year”.
Mr. Phillips stressed that this event is a non-political community event for people of all walks of life.
On the first night, the world’s two best reggae DJ’s according to Mr. Phillips with play a set for the older reggae lovers. He said people can expect to hear the “high quality old school reggae”.
“On Friday night, young people can come out and get a history lesson,’ he said.
Saturday night, the showdown will take place.
Collie Buddz along with other local acts including Ras Giorgios, Ninja Cutty — both performing songs from their new albums and together, Troy Anthony and C’Daynger will open the show with Collie as the headliner. He will perform a full set from his new album.
Rory and Rodigan will clash after the performances.
Mr. Phillips expressed his enthusiasm for the event and said: “It will be a pure fun, screaming event. You won’t stop screaming from beginning to end.”
He said people are still talking about the Cyclone event in 2005 where Rodigan clashed with Tony Matterhorn and won. He also admitted he likes people to talk about his events long after they have happened.
There will be local DJ’s playing including Black Star, Vybez Alliance, Genesis and Magnum Force.
In light of the recent political war going on in Bermuda, Mr. Phillips said he would like to stress that this is a community, not political event.
“We will remain neutral and non-political. I need to maintain my integrity and balance and have to protect the sovereignty of the organisation.”
Tickets for both events can be purchased at Dub City and Music World or revellers can pay at the gate.
