Rescheduled Sectional is a resounding success

The rescheduled Bermuda Sectional was held last weekend and congratulations must go to tournament chairperson Katrina VanPelt and tournament director Jack Rhind for a great job in putting it together in a short space of time.

The event was a resounding success on both the bridge and the social side, and the general reaction was really positive.

Congratulations to all! No dual winners in Flight A with Graves-Johnson coming close with one win and four seconds, resulting in them being joint top masterpoint winners in the Sectional.

Well done also to Michael Tait, Greg Carey and Jane Clipper for some excellent performances in their own and higher flights.

This week's hand is a bit of an oddity and many contestants remarked on the "freaky" computer dealt hands.

East-West were John Burville and Marge Way with Marge who was declarer as East in 3 NT. South led a spade and after taking 3 tricks the defence exited with a heart. Marge won with the King in dummy and, looking at the entry difficulties, cashed the club ace – bingo! When the King fell the hand became easy – overtake the diamond king. Finesse the jack of clubs and claim ten tricks. All four Kings are singleton, two are offside and all can be played under the Ace! Cute hand!

Reminder – Junior-Senior game at the Club on Wednesday, December 8. Andy Carne and partner will be defending their title. There is a sign up sheet at the club and there will be refreshments and a red-wine tasting after this game.Sign up while places remain!

Also the Bermuda National Teams will be held on Sunday, December 12.
