St. George?s to host second ?Funday Sunday?

All roads will lead to St. George?s on Sunday when residents and visitors accept the St. George?s Foundation?s invitation to join them in their second annual ?Funday Sunday? at the World Heritage Centre on Penno?s Wharf.

The action-packed family event promises hours of fun and excitement for patrons of all ages and tastes. The broad range of activities and entertainment will again include the popular ?round the town? car rally competition, as well as Dottie the magical clown, train rides, boat trips on the , face painting, bouncy castle, games and entertainment, and a revival of the traditional Guy Fawkes night bonfire, commemorating the date in 1605 when Fawkes? plot to blow up the British Houses of Paliament was foiled. East End charities will operate the food and refreshment stalls.

Of special interest will be the Bermuda Sloop Foundation?s beautiful new vessel, , which will be docked in St. George?s.

Many exciting prizes and raffles, including several airline tickets on US carriers, will also be on offer, winners of which will be drawn just before Mr. Fawkes is burned in effigy on the bonfire at 6.30 p.m.

?We are really excited about this year?s event. Our volunteers have pulled out all the stops for this not-to-be-missed event,? Mayor Mariea Caisey, who also chairs the Foundation?s ?Funday Sunday? committee, said. ?We could not have done this without the generosity of our sponsors, donors and many supporters.?

The St. George?s Foundation, a registered charity founded in 1997, is dedicated to raising funds for Bermuda?s World Heritage Site ? the Town of St. George and its related fortifications. With this designation, St. George?s joins an elite group of world treasures that includes India?s Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, and Egypt?s Great Pyramids. The Foundation spearheaded the successful effort to obtain World Heritage Status from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and is presently raising funds for the completion of The World Heritage Centre, located on Penno?s Wharf, St. George?s.

An orientation and exhibit gallery is located in the Centre, and the Foundation?s film, ?A Stroll through St. George?s?, narrated by Lance Furbert, is shown there. Both will provide educational assistance and orientation help for visitors to the World Heritage Site.
