The Lady Cubitt Compassionate Association (LCCA) will launch a year-long, $240,000 health screening programme for Bermuda's seniors.
The pilot project will involve 2,000 people aged 75 and older who live in a central parish, said LCCA chairman Thomas Dickinson, who added that the project would be a testament to those who would be working on it.
He said: "It holds a lot of hope and will be positive for everyone involved.
It has received the blessings of Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Cann and other Government departments and has a definite benefit for the elderly.'' The project will be conducted by Government gerontologist Dr. Khin M. Myint. A member of the LCCA's management committee will be on the project team and the funds will be administered by the LCCA.
The funds were raised through investments, dues, bequest and the LCCA's annual tag day.
LCCA was incorporated in 1942 to help those in the community who are less fortunate. The organisation also assists those who are in need of medical or surgical treatments which are not available on the Island.
