Community activist Lucy Willitts yesterday appealed to locals to help fill containers bound for Montserrat and Jamaica with food and clothing.

"These are the last few days and we are appealing to the community for assistance,'' Mrs. Willitts said. "We need to have the containers filled by this weekend so that they can be shipped off in time to arrive for Christmas.'' Locals should take their donations to St. Patrick's Church in Smith's Parish between 6 and 8 p.m. today, tomorrow and Thursday.

The Peace Plan Group and the Red Cross are organising the appeal which has received assistance from various supermarkets who have had drop boxes in their stores.

A wicker beach bag containing a wallet, with a quantity of cash, and other personal items were stolen.

CRASH DRIVER ARRESTED AC CRM Crash driver arrested An early morning single vehicle accident resulted in a 49-year-old Pembroke man being arrested for impaired driving.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said the accident took place around 1 a.m.

on Sunday on Frog Lane in Devonshire.

The driver was not injured in the collision which saw a Daewoo car strike a pole.

The driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion for impaired driving.

TEENAGER ROBBED CRM Teenager robbed Police are investigating the weekend armed robbery of a teen.

Police spokesperson P.c. Gary Venning said the 15-year-old victim was riding his pedal cycle around 6 p.m. on Saturday at the junction of Glebe Road and Parsons Road when the incident occurred.

A man brandishing a knife approached the teen and demanded his money.

The youth handed over a quantity of cash and was permitted to leave unharmed.

Police inquiries are continuing.

RESIDENCE BURGLED CRM Residence burgled Police are investigating the theft of several items from a Cedar Park, Devonshire home.

Spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said a tool bag, a cellular phone and charger, and a Panasonic VCR were taken from the house between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

FORMER POLICEMAN DIES OBT POL Former Policeman dies News has been received of the death of former Bermuda Policeman Terence D.

(Taffy) Alder, of North Cheam, Surrey, England.

Mr. Alder, who served in the Bermuda Police Service from 1957 to 1962, died on Saturday.

He leaves his wife, Janet, children Nancy, Tim and Richard and three grandchildren.
