*** Saltus Senior School has commenced rehearsals for Bugsy Malone. Head of school, Mr. Nigel Kermode and head of drama, Ms Jane Farrar are directing the school's annual musical production to be performed in late February.
The co-directors are pleased to have a large cast. Sixty-five students in all will take to the stage in this gangster musical.
Bugsy, the lead role, is played by George Spurling; Lovette Tannock is Blousey; Hannah Ellison is Tallulah and the two gangs are led by Grant Spurling as Fat Sam and Matthew Wissing as Dandy Dan.
Alan Parker's Bugsy Malone is a kids' musical set in 1929 New York City. It is a world of would-be hoodlums, showgirls, and dreamers. Audiences of all ages will enjoy watching the action, as pint-size adults experience the trials of love affairs, ambition and gang warfare concluding in a celebration amid foam from custard pies and splurge guns.
Children from the cast gave their first impressions: "We think it's exciting and fun; there's lots of bouncy music and we love the fights.''
