In past years, bursaries and trips to Paris and Quebec have been given to students in their last year of French instruction.

This year, $5,000 will be given to Berkeley Institute's French programme, Montessori Academy's programme and the Youth Library.

Berkeley will purchase learning materials, including French language CD-ROMs, videotapes, and comic books. Students will also get to interact with native French speakers in the Volunteer Conference Programme and an essay competition for the L'Alliance Francaise Prize for Excellence.

The Montessori Academy will be able to buy language materials for their primary school programme and the library will set up a French corner with a computer, games and books.

L'Alliance Francaise des Bermudes was formed more than 20 years ago to promote the French language and culture.

Part of it's funds are raised through the Bastille Day Raffle, July 14. There are more than 130 members including people from France, Switzerland, Belgium, French Africa, the Caribbean and Canada.
