Praying together to fight drugs
Association for Reconciliation's (NAR) prayer vigil being held tomorrow at 12.15 p.m. in Par-La-Ville Park.
The NAR believes there is a special effectiveness in coming together as a nation or community and held a similar event in May on the steps of City Hall.
A NAR spokesperson said: "There are clearly two different lifestyles, those who do drugs and other socially deviant conducts that accompany them, and those who believe in prayer.
"NAR theorises that because there are no barriers, the drug lifestyle can flow freely through the community as it obviously does, but on the other hand, those who lead a lifestyle of prayer are divided: there is the physical barrier of walls, the racial barrier, cultural barriers and the way some people worship is very formalised while others are much more free flowing.
"We believe that these barriers are one of the reasons for the apparent lack of effectiveness of churches.
"If there is truly "national'' or community wide representation, with barriers being bypassed, the group will meet on the last day of each month until the end of the year.
" We may also meet at sometime in the park or at St. George's Square, or Somerset. If you are concerned about the impact of drugs, violence, and wish to join us at least three times before the end of the year please let us know by calling 293-2423 or reaching us through N.A.R. P.O. Box HM 2662, Hamilton HMKX.''
