Desert dynamos
After Paul Hollis, 63, had his legs amputated, he assumed there was not much left to life.
He spent a lot of time remembering his childhood spent largely in the ocean off Spanish Point – little did he imagine that not only would he get back in the water, he would become a competitive swimmer.
Mr. Hollis has just returned from competition in the United States weighed down with gold medals for swimming.
He was one of five Bermudian athletes from Windreach Recreational Village who have won medals at an athletics contest for for disabled people.
This week The Royal Gazette, in a three-part series, profiles Mr. Hollis and other athletes, Jessica Lewis, Sia Castle, Paul Alves and Ashley Brady-Kelly to learn more about their inspiring stories.
