Herman Todd remembered
St. Anne's Anglican Church in Southampton was packed with family and friends Sunday attending the Memorial Service for Bermuda-born Herman Frederick Eugene Todd. He died in Toronto April 19 after a short illness in his 79th year, and was funeralized there. Herman was the eldest of seven children born to Herman (Jiggs) Todd and his wife Myrtle.
The Bermuda memorial service was conducted by Fr. David Matthews, assisted by Canon Rev. Thomas Nisbett. Interesting reminisces were recounted at the service and reception in the church hall about Herman's early life in Bermuda and his last 50 or more years in Canada. He settled there after qualifying as an electrical engineer at McMaster University, becoming as stated earlier, "a man of distinction and a professional at best".
Chief among the mourners Sunday were his wife, the former Elisabeth (Betty) Clarke who journeyed to Bermuda with two daughters Madrie and Elizabeth; a third, Judy was recuperating at home in Canada. Mrs. Todd is seen (photo, above right) on the left front row with Herman's siblings Maxwell, Richard, Thelma Hart and Janet (Pinky) Todd. Other kin are pictured in the lower photo to the right.
