Preregistration essential for Hospitality Institute’s Career Fair and Expo

Young people will get to sample a host of careers in the hospitality industry this weekend learning the proper way to make hotel beds, prepare crepes, mix beverages and fold napkins from local professionals.The Bermuda Hospitality Institute (BHI) will host its 2nd Annual Career Fair and Expo on Saturday at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.From 9am until midday, young people aged eight to 13 will get to learn about the five areas of hotel service. They will get information on:n front desk service from professional Gretchen Deann restaurant service by veterans Sinclair Robinson and Michael Danielsn cooking from executive chefs Keith DeShields and Herbie Bascomen housekeeping from Cindyann Douglasn beverage preparation from Wesley Robinson and Philip Galloway.From 12pm until 2pm, people of all ages are invited to take part in the career expo and have a chance to meet with nearly 30 hospitality business representatives in such areas as watersports, spas and restaurant management.Bermuda Hospitality Institute CEO Karla Lacey said the representatives would be promoting career opportunities available within their company or industry segment.Ms Lacey said: “Our role as the Bermuda Hospitality Institute is to encourage Bermudians to join or rejoin the hospitality industry and one of the ways we do that is to showcase the depth, breadth and width of the opportunities available in terms of careers or jobs.“Last year we had a great turn out, well over 250 people in attendance, and based on preregistration as of today it looks like we will have the same numbers this year.”Pre-registration is essential for the morning education sessions. They include complimentary breakfast and lunch however spaces are limited.She said she was hopeful residents would get someone useful from the event.“I want people to leave with a clear understanding of the opportunities that the hospitality industry holds for Bermuda and an excitement for an industry that is one of the fastest growing worldwide.”For more information or to register visit www.bhi.bm.
