Imagine Bermuda offers workshop on cellphone photography as part of competition

It’s lights, camera action, or at least it would be if you could figure out how to get your cell phone to make movies. Luckily, a workshop series is being offered to help with your cell phone movie magic. The workshop is part of the Imagine Bermuda ‘Can You Imagine’ cellphone video competition that asks people under age 25 to make a film imagining the best Bermuda possible. It is being run by the Bermuda International Film Festival (BIFF) in conjunction with the Chewstick Foundation.“There is still time for people to put their stories together,” said Aideen Ratteray Pryse of BIFF. “Imagine Bermuda is a community action group co-organised by Glenn Fubler. Mr Fubler has been moving forward with Imagine Bermuda for several years now, wanting people to remember our history, but also to come together with a shared vision for the future. This competition is reaching out to young people to ask them what they think about the Island. We wanted people to do it on cell phones because not everyone has video cameras, but just about everyone has got a cellphone with video ability. Glenn thought people needed help with how to film on a cell phone.”Kevin Lombard, current Masterworks Artist in Residence and award winning filmmaker offered to teach the workshops. He will be giving lessons on lighting and positioning of the people in a film. He will also cover basic editing techniques and troubleshooting, among other things.“He recommends that you read the brochure that comes with your cell phone,” said Ms Ratteray Pryse. “If you are not going to do that, go to Kevin’s workshops instead.”One of the workshops has already been conducted, but Ms Ratteray Pryse said it is all right if you don’t take all the workshops. The second workshop will be tonight (Tuesday) from 4.30pm to 6pm at the BIFF office at 15 Front Street, Hamilton and next Tuesday, June 5, same time, same place. For more information see their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ImagineBermuda.There are two competition age categories, under 25 and under 18. The prize is $700 for each category.“Not only will the judges be looking at your film and the impact, but also looking at asking you to tell us what you are going to do with the $700,” said Ms Ratteray Pryse. “We would like the money to help the winner in some educational way.”To enter, upload your entry to the Imagine Bermuda Facebook page. Don’t forget to include your name, contact details, age and a couple of words about what you want to do with the prize money. The deadline for the competition is June 14. Winning entries will be screened on June 21 as part of the John Lennon Tribute event at Masterworks Museum. ZBM will also screen the entries in the week leading up to this event.
