Pharmacists go the extra mile

A group of pharmacists raised almost $11,000 for charity through a special Bermuda Day fun run.“We would like to make the [it] an annual event and therefore look to assist various other charities across Bermuda in the future,” said Bermuda Pharmaceutical Association president Sonia Bromfield. “Our goal is to play a vital part in making Bermuda’s community better. The Bermuda community is more than just customers to us, they are neighbours and friends. We are most grateful for the support they have afforded us thus far.”With 30 pharmacists from across the Island participating in the fun run, the BPA exceeded its original target of $10,000. The funds will be split between the Bermuda Diabetes Association, and a new clinic for the Feed My Lambs Ministry in Haiti, a charity run by Bermudian Phillip Rego.“We not only met our target but managed to raise an additional $882,” said Dr Bromfield. “Each charity received $5,441. Let me express heartfelt gratitude to the community of Bermuda for their selfless contribution in a time of great economic hardship.”Employees at Renaissance Reinsurance Services Ltd donated $1,000 and the company matched that with a $4,000 donation.“Thus, almost half of our funds raised was donated by them,” said Dr Bromfield. “We appreciate this tremendously.”
