Coming together to keep art alive
Struggling art charities have joined together to keep art alive in the community.Plein air painting, art demonstrations and art sales are among the offerings at a special event on Friday organised by the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard, Bermuda National Gallery, Bermuda Society of Arts and Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art.The charities will also sell tags throughout Hamilton, in an effort to boost charitable donations.BNG director Lisa Howie said that while all charities in Bermuda were struggling, art based organisations had their own particular problems.“We are specifically challenged by the parallel acute need for social services and the hospital development project, which is taking up a lot of potential charity dollars,” she said.Robyn Hooper of Masterworks said it was hoped a joint effort would generate more funding.“For this project we want to demonstrate that by supporting one art organisation you are supporting all four art organisations,” she said. “The tag day works off the basic theory of ‘many hands make light work’.“We are trying our best to be cost-effective, and efficient with our time. We have common goals and should be proud to be working with each other.”They encouraged companies to hold a denim day in support of the arts. Interested businesses should telephone Ms Howie on 295-9428 or e-mail director@bng.bmDonations can also be made online: www.premierticketsglobal.com/Event/464/Keeping-Art-Alive-Tag-Day/
