New phone service for disabled launched
A new service primarily for Bermuda's visually impaired residents was inaugurated at a Prayer Breakfast at the Peace Lutheran Church, Paget. It is called BERMUDA DAITELINE, which is short for Bermuda's Disabled's Access to Info Telephone Line. BERMUDA DAITLINE was certainly a dream come true, for Sherman Thompson and Venita Smith who had a vision for providing information to the Blind and Visually Impaired. In the picture are some of the personalities who predominated at the inaugural. They included broadcaster Gina Spence, who was the ‘MC', Rev J Alton Thompson, Rev Veronica Outerbridge, Dilton Lightbourne, who rendered selections on his Musical Saw and soloist Mrs Debbie Wales. Also her husband, Rev D'wain Wales, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, who led spiritual meditations. Mrs Victoria Lambert Robinson, a freelance poet, penned a special poem for the occasion.
