If you’re looking to buy something usual for the art lover in your family, how about a 15ft mural?

The current Masterworks Artist in Residence Elliott Wilson is leaving the Island after Christmas and is hoping to sell the mural of Bermuda he created with the help of Bermudian schoolchildren. The mural is called ‘The Big, Brave, Bold Bermuda’ mural.

“It was an idea that came to me when I thought about how I could combine my stay here with getting involved in the community,” said Mr Wilson. “I thought a community project would allow me to leave the island in three month’s time with a sense of affecting the long-term understanding of art in the minds of the children I worked with.”

The mural is a composite drawing of Bermuda which Mr Wilson drew, and over the course of two months, many Bermudian schoolchildren stuck colourful pieces of material to add the colour and life to the mural.

He was also assisted by Nancy Frith of the Bermuda Quilting Guild.

“The end result is a fun, whimsy piece of art, albeit a large one,” said Mr Wilson. The mural measures 15ft by four ft, so it is a large piece that is suited to an office lobby or someone who has a large empty wall in their home. It is selling for $5,000.

For more information contact the Masterworks Museum on 236-2950. Mr Wilson’s oil paintings are also on exhibit until December 24.
