Petition started to protest upcoming tiger show
Hundreds of people from around the world have signed an online petition to stop tigers from being used in an upcoming magic show on the Island.The ‘Stop tigers performing in Bermuda’ appeal on gopetition.com had 827 signatures, as of press time last night. People from as far away as Greece, Germany, Mexico, Romania, Japan, India, Brazil and Australia got behind the campaign, including 427 people from North America and five from South Africa.The campaign comes two weeks after the Bermuda Society for the Prevention of Cruelty towards Animals (SPCA) expressed concerns about an upcoming magic performance featuring a live tiger.Sandys Rotary Club are the organisers behind ‘The Magic of Rick Thomas’ and have said any funds raised will be donated to local charities like PolioPlus. SPCA director Kim Sherlaw previously stated the show exploits tigers for financial gain and said the animal could suffer stress due to the training, travel and confinement.The online petition can be viewed at:http://www.gopetition.com/petition/41550/signature-map.html.
