ZBM 9 due to return to air today

Irate TV viewers who don’t use CableVision have been without ZBM channel nine and ZFB channel seven since last month. Cable viewers are unaffected.Sheila Dempster said she had repeatedly called the Bermuda Broadcasting Company but had been unable to get an answer.“It’s beyond a joke. We’ve been left with only one station, VSB. I suppose they think people who don’t have cable aren’t avid TV viewers. There are five of us all trying to find out what’s happened.”She said both channels just gave static, and had done so since before Christmas.Another viewer wrote The Royal Gazette to complain that “BBC blames this on a lightning strike against their TV transmitters, which I am satisfied did happen, but was a poor excuse in this age of advanced technology for not finding alternative means to continue operating.“VSB TV suffered the same fate but they found a way to keep channel 11 coming through, for which I applaud them.”BBC employees confirmed that lightning had knocked out transmission equipment, and said the company expected to have the problem repaired soon.Company head Rick Richardson said last night that he hopes to have Channel Nine up and running today.
