Woman fined for having drug equipment
A 23-year-old woman was fined $3,000 after she admitted possession of cannabis and drug equipment in an increased penalty zone.The car Rickeisha Dickinson was travelling in as a passenger was pulled over by police on Curving Avenue, Pembroke, on the evening of September 25 last year.Crown counsel Nicole Smith told Magistrates’ Court on Friday, the officers were conducting an operation in anticipation of violence in the area and were authorised to conduct searches for weapons.They searched Dickinson, whose address was not given in court, and found a metal grinder and a wooden grinder, both containing green plant material, and three plastic twists containing green material.The twists were later confirmed to contain 0.03 grams of cannabis. Ms Smith said Dickinson had a previous conviction for a similar offence.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined her $1,000 for possession of cannabis and $1,000 for possession of drug equipment, with a further $500 for each offence because the car was within 300 metres of Happy Valley Day Care Centre.
