New buoys placed off the North Shore coral reef preserveMariners are being warned to keep a sharp lookout for two new buoys placed around the North Shore coral reef preserve by Bermuda Institute for Ocean Sciences.The buoys at Crescent Reef and Hog Reef contain scientific equipment to measure seawater temperature, salinity and other elements.Bermuda Maritime Operation Centre said each buoy has a light that flashes on for one second and off for three seconds and should be visible for a range of one nautical mile.The Crescent Reef buoy is at latitude 32°24’2.80” and longitude 64°47’50.90”. The Hog Reef buoy is at latitude 32°27’26.40” and longitude 64°50’5.10”.Three homes broken into on FridayThree homes were broken into on Friday, however items were not stolen from two of the homes.The first break-in happened at South Road, Smith.The owner told Police someone broke in during the morning, but nothing was taken.The second break-happened between 2.46pm and 6.10pm on a Lighthouse Lane, Southampton. The owner said jewellery was stolen from the home.The third burglary happened between 2.50pm and 6.45pm on Harbour Road, Paget. The owner of the home said nothing appeared to be missing.Police are investigating the incidents and advised people to lock their windows and doors before leaving their homes.Police arrest two people for impaired drivingTwo people were arrested for impaired driving.A 33-year-old Devonshire woman was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) on Thursday after her motorcycle and a car collided.A 34-year-old Hamilton Parish man driving the car was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. The incident happened around 9pm.A 58-year-old Devonshire man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving around 4.30pm the same day.Said a spokesman: “Police and first responders attended a reported single-vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Middle Road and Chaingate Hill in Devonshire.“On arrival at the scene officers found a 58-year-old Devonshire man lying in the road next to a damaged auxiliary cycle. The Devonshire man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries and subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.”
