Inspiring moment for Senator as he meets Fire Service recruits
National Security Minister David Burch said it was inspiring to spend time with 14 trainee firemen undertaking a recruit training course at the Hamilton Fire Station. He commended the Bermudian men, aged from 19 to 40, who are currently in the third week of a 26-week course.Senator Burch visited the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service Recruit Training Course in Hamilton yesterday to talk with the recruits. He said: “It was inspiring to spend a short time with these young men who are joining a Service that has a proud history and commitment to safety and rescue in Bermuda.”Through his brief discussions with the recruits he learnt some had chosen firefighting as a second career choice and had come from diverse professional backgrounds in areas like marketing, construction and plumbing.Sen Burch said “these men are excellent examples of the power of positive life choices.“The course is intense and is designed to produce a professional fire services officer trained in a variety of disciplines. On behalf of the Government I went to encourage them and support them as they embark on a career of uniformed service to Bermuda.”The recruit training team is led by Lieutenant Troy Furbert.
