Audubon Society celebrates birthday with tree planting

A number of native and endemic Bermuda trees were planted at Government House yesterday to mark the 50th anniversary of the Bermuda Audubon Society.

The patron of the Audubon Society, Lady Vereker, was involved in the creation of an ?Audubon grove? of native and endemic trees like Bermuda cedar, that will overlook the North Shore.

?It is a delight to be sharing in this conservation project,? Audubon president Andrew Dobson said. ?We are already involved in helping to maintain a bluebird trail at Government House.

?The reforestation project will improve the habitat for birds and insect life as well as attractively landscaping the grounds.?

The new grove is part of the reforestation project being undertaken in the grounds of Government House.

?The society looks forward to assisting in similar projects throughout the next 50 years,? Mr. Dobson said.
