Cricketer bolts from military jail
Local cricketer Jason Anderson is on the run from Regiment police after escaping from the military jail yesterday.
The talented St. George's wicketkeeper who was omitted from the national squad last summer because of disciplinary concerns, had been locked up at Warwick camp for consistent non-attendance.
Colonel Eddie Lamb told last night Mr. Anderson asked to use the telephone, only to leap over the jail counter and flee when the attention of the jailer was diverted.
It is understood that Mr. Anderson is due to appear in Magistrates' Court this morning on an assault charge, following an alleged attack with a broom handle on a Regiment policeman last July.
Neither his family nor Regiment police have any idea where he is currently hiding ? although Col. Lamb warned the matter could be turned over to Police if Mr. Anderson fails to show up in court.
"We have had a lot of problems with Private Anderson for his continual reluctance to serve his country," he said.
"He is a very talented young man and I have talked with him until I'm blue in the face. We have done our best to try and salvage him, but he does have a proclivity for violent outbursts. I have spoken to his mother on the phone and told her I'm extremely disappointed with his behaviour."
