Invetor?s spark was Island inspiration
A violin teacher who taught in Bermuda has patented a pencil grip that can attach to a music stand.
Chas Arnold, who worked as Chairman of the Bermuda Suzuki Association for three years, got the idea when he was playing in the orchestra in Bermuda two years ago and once again had to ask a fellow musician if he could borrow her pencil.
He thought it was time someone invented a pencil grip that could attach to a music stand so he got the help of a designer friend to create a prototype using dental epoxy, with parts Super Glued together.
Mr. Arnold got a patent in October. His $5 product has both a magnet to attach to a music stand and Velcro so it can stick to a music case or folder. However he spent $10,000 developing the idea according to an article in Mr. Arnold?s home town newspaper Ann Arbor News.
Mr. Arnold is marketing the pencil grip to music conventions and shows and is trying to drum up interest in Europe.
