Police report sixth weekend road accident

The number of people put in the intensive care unit from road accidents over the weekend rose to six yesterday as Police reported another serious crash.

Police were called to North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish at 5.30 a.m. on Sunday where they found a 53-year-old St. George' resident appeared to have lost control of his bike and hit a stone pillar.

He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital from the junction near Harlem Heights Road and was treated for facial and suspected internal injuries. He was in serious but stable condition last night.

Five other people were taken to hospital after serious accidents in a grim weekend on the Island's roads.

Four young people involved in an accident at 3.40 a.m. on Sunday at the junction of Middle Road and Bostock Hill East remained in stable condition at the hospital last night.

Police believe that the car lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle and crashed into a porch.

The driver, a 23-year-old Southampton man, suffered face and chest injuries. The front passenger, a 19-year-old Pembroke woman, had a head injury and bruising, while a back seat occupant, a 19-year-old from the same parish, received a broken pelvis. A 20-year-old Pembroke man, the second back seat passenger, had a broken neck.

Also in the hospital is the man involved in Friday's road accident on Frog Lane which saw him "catapulted " over a car. It appears the man was trying to overtake a car early Friday evening when he struck another vehicle. His bike ricocheted one way while the man was thrown over another car. He was in serious but stable condition last night.
