Supreme Court Arraignments

Three people pleaded guilty to drug-related offences at yesterday?s Arraignments session in the Supreme Court.

Lillian Bobolele Ramphelle initially pleaded guilty to importing 542 grams of heroin on June 30, 2005, but denied possessing the drug with the intent to supply.

Director of Public Prosecutions Vinette Graham-Allen informed Ramphelle?s lawyer, Elizabeth Christopher, that under 2005 Criminal Code amendments the Department was required to try anyone found with over a gram of heroin with intent to supply.

Ramphelle then changed her plea to not guilty of importing the drug and guilty to possessing it with the intent to supply.

Ms Graham-Allen said the importation charge would remain on file. Ramphelle was remanded and will return for sentencing on February 17.

Jazane Zarone Smith, 30, of Sandys, pleaded guilty to importing and possessing cocaine with the intent to supply on August 31. He was remanded in custody and will return for sentencing on March 1.

Deon Sheldon Pitcher, 21, of St. George?s, pleaded guilty to growing cannabis and possessing the drug with the intent to supply. He also pleaded guilty to possessing drug equipment and obstructing Police. He too was remanded in custody and will return for sentencing on March 1.

Emmanuel Omogham, 39, of Ontario, Canada, denied conspiring to import cocaine to Bermuda.

It is alleged he, along with others, planned to import the drug between June 27 and July 4 of 2005. Omogham received bail and will return to court on April 3.

He was remanded into custody.

Andre Kirk Hypolite also appeared in Supreme Court yesterday, his trial is expected to start on April 4.

Hypolite, 33, is accused of murdering Nicholas Dill on Boxing Day 2004, he has denied stabbing Mr. Dill.
