A chance to put your fish chowder to the test

If you know you make a good fish chowder you have a good chance of winning the amateur title in the upcoming Culinary Arts Festival.

Festival producer Stephan Juliusburger revealed that so far he?s received only four entries for the competition. And The Supermart is giving a $125 gift certificate to all registered competitors who make it through the preliminary round. ?This is a great opportunity for amateur chefs to showcase their talents in the kitchen, but it is now crunch time. The August 31 Harbour Nights in Hamilton will be the last chance for those people living in the Central Parishes,? said organiser Graham Redford.

?Western Parish chowder chefs would enter the Destination Dockyard Night on September 13; those from the Eastern Parishes can demonstrate their culinary skills on September 27 at the final Market Nights of the season.

?Regional winners will go on to compete head-to-head at this year?s Bermuda Culinary Arts Festival on either October 22 or 23 to discover the Best of the Best!?

Entrants will be expected to bring three gallons of their fish chowder to the relevant challenge location. They will be expected to stay and serve their chowder for two hours or until it is all gone. One assistant may help. Serving equipment will be provided by the Festival. Those who would like to participate should either call Mr. Juliusburger at 295-2508 or e-mail stephansyntuitive.bm
