Teen remanded over love row

A teenager who attacked a friend in a dispute over a girl was charged with theft and assault in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Malachi Jones,17, pleaded guilty to attacking Kevin Alboy as he sat on his bike in a yard in Sandys Parish on February 15, before running off with his wallet, containing $120 in cash, and cellular phone.

Jones told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that Mr. Alboy had been criticising him in front of other people because he was jealous over his relationship with a girl.

“So you decided to give him a beating?” Mr. Warner retorted as Jones lowered his head.

Meanwhile, the boy's mother was also in court and pleaded with Mr. Warner to help her son.

“I'm his mother and I just cannot control him at all,” she said.

Ordering a social enquiry report, Mr. Warner scolded Jones for his actions and remanded him into custody until he had decided how to deal with him and where he also hoped Jones “would come to his senses”.

Drunk driver jailed

A drunken man who took Police on a wild chase through the streets of Hamilton as he veered from lane to lane on his bike was sentenced to six months imprisonment yesterday.

Ross Parsons, 33, who is currently serving time for similar offences, was seen driving down the wrong side of Front Street at around 2.45 p.m on March 10.

When Police tried to stop him, Parsons took off at speed up Burnaby Street and was chased along Reid Street and Church Street, often in the right-hand lane.

The pursuit came to an end when he lost control of his Yamaha bike and crashed.

Taken to Hamilton Police Station, Parsons was found to be close to three times over the legal limit, providing a breathalyser reading of 218 millilitres of alcohol in 100 millilitres.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered that the sentence be served in addition to the time Parsons is already serving.
