Devonshire man caught with cannabis
A Devonshire man was fined $250 for possessing cannabis last year.
Devaun Jahmel Cox, 21, of Orchard Grove, Devonshire, was caught with the drug in Pembroke on September 30, 2005.
Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said that at around 11 p.m. that day Cox was seen by members of the Police Support Unit travelling south at an excessive speed on Curving Avenue, Pembroke.
After he was stopped, Cox appeared to act nervously and attempted to hide something in his right hand, Ms Clarke said.
Police searched Cox and found a $1 US bill twisted up containing 0.48 grams of cannabis, she said.
The prosecutor said Cox had previous convictions for drug possession.
"If you sneezed it would probably all blow away," Acting Magistrate Mark Pettingill said.
Drunk driver struggled to put bike on stand
A night out at the Spinning Wheel nightclub cost a drunk driver $750 and a 12-month driving ban in Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Clifford Jermaine Rawlins, 26, of Parsons Road, pleaded guilty to impaired driving on November 17, 2005.
Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said at 12.45 a.m. Police saw Rawlins fail to stop at a stop sign on Princess Street.
After he was stopped by Police on North Street, Ms Clarke said Rawlins had difficulty putting the cycle on its stand.
She said he was unsteady on his feet, his eyes were glazed and his breath smelled of intoxicants.
"Yes, I just came from Spinning Wheel," Rawlins told Police when asked if he had been drinking. Acting Magistrate Mark Pettingill ordered Rawlins to pay his fine by May 26.
The duty counsel was Edward King.
