Awards for top floats get new names

The Island is gearing up for May 24 and various Government ministries are doing their part to ensure the day goes off with out a hitch.

The Bermuda Day Parade will start at the corner of Par-la-Ville Road and Church streets. It will proceed east on Front Street and turn left on Court Street. It will then turn right on Reid Street and proceed to Cavendish Road and Montpelier Road. It will end on North Field, also known as Frog Land Field.

Dale Butler, Minister of Community Affairs and Sports (pictured), announced that the awards for floats on May 24 have new names.

The new names honour people in the community that have made significant contributions to the Island.

?Best Float? award has become the Premier?s Award and the ?Most Beautiful? has been re-christened the Reggie Ming Award.

Twelve awards are presented to floats and each has received a new name.

In total eight individuals have been honoured.

The Ministry of Community Affairs and Sport is providing a free bus services to transport spectators from Bernard Park in Hamilton to the National Sports Centre in Devonshire.

The shuttle will run from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. tomorrow.

The Department of Marine and Ports Services has also announced that ferry schedule will be altered to meet the needs of the community.

There will be an additional ferry leaving Hamilton at 8.15 a.m. to take marathon runners and spectators to Watford Bridge.

The Paget, West End, Dockyard and St. George?s routes will operate on their regular Monday to Friday schedule despite it being a public holiday.

The Rockaway and Somerset Bridge route will be cancelled tomorrow.
