The assistant principal and drama teacher of Bishop Watterson High School in Columbus, Ohio in the United States will be taking over as principal of Mount St. Agnes from Sister Judith, who is leaving the school at the end of the term.

Jim Silcott taught at Watterson from 1979 to 1989 before moving on to work as principal at St. Timothy and Immaculate Conception elementary schools as well as Bishop Hartley High School.

He returned to Watterson in 2000 as English teacher and assistant principal, in charge of curriculum and instruction.

Mount St. Agnes Academy has 500 students in grades K-12 and is the only Catholic school in Bermuda.

Thief steals Playstation 2, Rolex

A thief broke into a Glebe Road, Pembroke, residence on Wednesday and stole a man?s gold wedding band, a Sony Playstation 2 and a silver Rolex watch.

The complainant told Police the unknown culprit broke into his house sometime between 7.15 a.m. and 1 p.m. that day. Inquiries are underway.

Woman wakes to find thief in her home

A Pembroke woman woke up early on Friday morning ? to find a man in her home stealing from her.

The Field View Lane resident told Police she awoke around 6 a.m. to find the man inside her home. Despite chasing the culprit, he managed to escape with a cell phone, an undisclosed amount of cash and personal items.

Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Police investigate car fire

Police are investigating the cause of a vehicle fire which took place on Roberts Avenue on Thursday night.

The owner of the car, who lives on Roberts Avenue, told Police she parked her car on the Devonshire street at 8.30 p.m. Around 11.15 p.m. an acquaintance came to her house to tell her that her car was on fire.

The Bermuda Fire Service put the fire out with one truck and five fire fighters.

Teens sentenced to community service

Two Southampton men were sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to various charges including breaking into Spice Valley school in Warwick.

Erin Richardson, 19, of Riviera Crescent and 18-year-old Devonne Adrian Hodgson of Eastdale Lane, pleaded guilty in Magistrates? Court last Monday to an assault causing bodily harm on February 18, stealing a bike worth $3,000 on the same date and breaking into Spice Valley on March 9 and stealing a $2,000 laptop.

The pair admitted breaking into Spice Valley a day later with Hodgson also admitting to escaping lawful custody.

He also admitted breaking into Spice Valley on January 16 but pleaded not guilty to a wilful damage charge. Crown counsel Anthony Blackman asked for that charge to remain on file.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner warned the pair they would not be able to terrorise the community and get away with it. He sentenced them to three years of probation with a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew and ordered each of them to do 180 hours community service.
