Asbestos courses

Asbestos abatement control courses will run from March 13 to 20 at the Environmental Health Department.

Environmental Health Officer Roger Mello said there was still a lot of asbestos still on the Island ? particularly on old corrugated roofs.

"There are four to five asbestos abatement contractors on the Island. Every year we put these courses on so they can get re-certified after a year, or if any new people want to come in."

Members of the public who want to learn how to safely remove asbestos from buildings were also welcome to attend the courses, he said.

The courses include ? an Asbestos Workers Certificate from March 13 to 16, an Asbestos Abatement Supervisor's Certificate from March 13 to 17 and a Supervisor's Refresher Course and Asbestos Worker's Re-certification both on March 20.
